A controlled burn that is part of the land management plan to restore Thompson’s Field extended to the surrounding area this morning. The Fire Department responded to the area at the request of the Town’s Conservation Agent and quickly contained the fire. The area, which was between two dirt paths, never threatened any other property.

The Fire Department, The Conservation Department and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and recreation have worked together to develop a plan for these piles burns and also to develop a response in case there is extension like today. The plan worked exactly as designed and is a testament to the efforts put forth to ensure every contingency is covered.

Today’s pile burn is in an area that was originally a meadow and the Town hopes to return to that native habitat through the land management plan in place. Further information regarding the Land management Plan and the pending prescribed burn plan are available from the Town Conservation Department.
